Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) fumes and odors present a serious threat to workplace health and safety. The FRED Carbo is a portable fume extractor designed specifically to extract VOC’s right at their source. Safer breathing zones for workers is guaranteed.

The FRED Carbo’s filter contains high-porosity, activated carbon granules that effectively adsorb most industrial VOC fumes. The carbon cartridge is reversible allowing you to use 100% of the available media, virtually doubling filter life.

Featuring a high performance blower with a powerful face velocity, the FRED Carbo effectively eliminates airborne fumes from the workspace. The extractor’s pantograph-style arm allows for smooth repositioning while protecting components from wear and tear.

How to..

+ Set up your FRED Carbo for the first time

Unpack Unit

Inspect carton for any possible damage during transit.
Use forklifts or trucks to move.
Remove packing material.
Do not tip or invert while handling.
You’ll find the item serial number, model and electrical ratings located on the nameplate. Write down information on the provided Maintenance Record found in the owner’s manual.

Location Selection

Designate a location for the unit near the operator that is sufficiently close to a grounded power source.

Installation

Each machine is wired for correct rotation:
- If motor is serviced, restart the unit.
- Confirm motor is turning in the correct direction. (See indication arrow marked on motor).
If not already installed, install the carbon canisters onto the plenum:
- The canisters are held in place with a safety bar to prevent accidental tipping.
- Once in place install the safety filter around the canister.

+ Perform Function Test

Before you use your unit, you’ll want to perform a function test to verify it’s in working order.

Confirm correct Voltage and Amperes
Check that the Carbon Filter is properly installed.
Turn the power switch to “On” for a few seconds and check that the motor rotation is correct.
Look to confirm that the unit is level and stable. Verify nothing is obstructing extraction path.
Start the unit.
Listen closely to the motor and suction sound of the unit. Are they within the expected noise limits?
Place hand on top of the unit and feel for any unexpected vibration. Place your hand in front of the intake surface to confirm the expected levels of suction.

+ Perform Routine Maintenance

Daily Inspection

Inspect all equipment surfaces for dust buildup:
- Wipe down as needed.
Inspect carbon filters for signs of dust buildup:
- Service as needed.
Check that the gasket between the housing and the carbon canister is not damaged.
Turn unit on and adjust the capture arm distance to the source so as to capture the maximum amount of fumes.

Filter Replacement- As required

Replace after-filter media when it appears torn or dirty.
Replace Carbon canisters after air sampling or every 6 months depending on usage and concentration of fumes being collected.

Yearly Inspection

Clean labels and exterior surfaces.
Check for tears in flex hoses and fitting of hose clamps.
Wash cabinet internal assemblies with warm water mixed with mild detergent (Allow 12 hours to dry before use).
Inspect controls for loose wiring.
Examine motors for signs of unusual wear.

Troubleshooting

+ The motor does not operate on your FRED Carbo unit

Check input power.
If the problem continues, contact Diversitech support for assistance.

+ Low or restricted airflow

Check motor rotation. It is possible that the unit is in reverse phasing. An electrician is required to reposition phase lines.
Check filter load. Replace if necessary.

+ The motor on unit operates intermittently

Perform routine maintenance on unit.
