How to..

+ Set up your Filterhawk EBM Dust Collector for the first time

Before You Begin – Select a Location

  1. When designating the location for your unit you must consider the following factors:
    • Choose a location that maximizes effective operation while affording access for service/maintenance
    • Choose a location that keeps safety considerations at the forefront. Explosions and fires in collection systems are not uncommon. Place unit in accordance with any local, state, or national fire/safety codes/regulations.
    • Choose a location near electrical and compressed air sources.
  2. After the installation, access/clearance must be available to service the following components:
    • Filters
    • Fan
    • Valves
    • Controls
    • Dust draw
  3. If additional assistance is required, contact Diversitech support for assistance.

Unpacking Unit

  1. Upon receipt of unit, inspect carton and components for any possible damage or loss during transit.
  2. Note any damage on bill of lading and file claim with carrier if applicable.
  3. Notify Diversitech within two weeks (10 business days) in regards to any missing parts or components.

Mechanical Installation

All of the mechanical installation must be performed by a qualified installer and in accordance with local, state, and national codes/regulations/laws (if any).

  1. Ensure you have enough room in front of the access doors and/or dust drawers for easy filter access as well as all around the unit for access in the event of maintenance or emergency.
  2. After placement, the collector (and booth) should be secured to the floor using tapered anchor bolts.

Electrical Installation

All electrical installations must be performed by a qualified electrician and in accordance with local, state, and national codes/regulations/laws (if any).

Compressed Air Installation

The compressed air installation should be performed by a qualified installer and in accordance with local, state, and national codes/regulations/laws (if any).

  1. Compressed air is used to clean the dust coated cartridge filters with a high pressure reverse jet pulse.
    • A one inch diameter dedicated supply with a minimum of 80 PSI and a maximum of 100 PSI is recommended.
    • An air regulator may be necessary to step down the supply air if the plant pressure is above the recommended rating. NOT complying will result in component damage.
  2. The air supply line to the accumulator tank must include water, oil and particulate filtration.
    • Water and oil in the compressed air will significantly reduce the effectiveness of the reverse jet pulse cleaning.
  3. A 160 PSI gage has been pre-installed to monitor air pressure. Prior to the final connection of the air line to the collector manifold, the air line should be purged to remove debris.
+ Perform Routine Maintenance

For optimal performance, routine maintenance is highly recommended. Do the following:

Clean Dust Drawer and Hopper

Check and empty dust drawer and hopper contents periodically.
NOTE: The frequency depends on the number of operating shifts and plant conditions.

Clean Spark Baffles (optional)

The spark baffles are located underneath the grating and should be periodically cleaned with mild soap and water.

  1. Remove the access panel.
  2. Pull out both spark baffles.
  3. Wash with soap and water and air dry.
  4. Replace both spark baffles.
  5. Replace the access panel.

Clean Drain Valve

Periodically open the drain valve attached below the tank to drain the liquid build-up in the air tank.

+ Replace Filters

For optimal performance, clean filters are necessary. You can either clean your cartridge filters with our Green Filter Cleaning Machine, or you can replace them at regular intervals. To replace your cartridge filters, do the following:

  1. Disconnect electrical power to the fan and control box.
  2. Disconnect compressed air service from the compressed air header.
  3. Bleed all air from the air header.
  4. Perform an OSHA approved lockout/tag-out procedure on these and any other energy sources.
  5. Open the access doors at the front of the unit.
  6. Rotate the right clamp bar up and pull, until its locking tab clears the rectangular cut-out on the left clamp bar.
  7. Rotate the left clamp bar up and push it away from you until its locking tab clears the rectangular cut-out on the right clamp bar.
  8. Rotate both clamp bars down until they are vertical and clear of the cartridge extraction path.
  9. Slide dirty filter cartridges off the clamp bar channels.
  10. Clean the surface of the tube sheet in the areas where the filter gasket forms a seal.
  11. Carefully remove a new cartridge from the shipping carton.
  12. Grasp the new cartridge by the top metal pan and set it onto the clamp bar channels.
  13. Slide cartridge forward, keeping level. Push on the cartridge pan, not media. Do not drag gasket along the tube sheet.
  14. Push the cartridge in just far enough to leave room for the next cartridge to rest on the clamp bar channels.
  15. Repeat until row is full.
  16. To seal the new cartridges, repeat the instructions in steps 10 through 6 in reverse order.
  17. Repeat steps 6 through 16 until all the rows of cartridges are changed.
