How to..

+ Set up your StormTower Ambient Collector for the first time

Before You Begin – Select a Location

  1. When designating the location for your unit you must consider the following factors:
    • Choose a location that maximizes effective operation while affording access for service/maintenance
    • Choose a location that keeps safety considerations at the forefront. Explosions and fires in collection systems are not uncommon. Place unit in accordance with any local, state, or national fire/safety codes/regulations.
    • Choose a location near electrical and compressed air sources.
  2. After the installation, access/clearance must be available to service the following components:
    • Filters
    • Fan
    • Valves
    • Controls
    • Dust draw
  3. If additional assistance is required, contact Diversitech support for assistance.

Unpacking Unit

  1. Upon receipt of unit, inspect carton and components for any possible damage or loss during transit.
  2. Note any damage on bill of lading and file claim with carrier if applicable.
  3. Notify Diversitech within two weeks (10 business days) in regards to any missing parts or components.

Mechanical Installation

All of the mechanical installation must be performed by a qualified installer and in accordance with local, state, and national codes/regulations/laws (if any).

  1. Ensure you have enough room in front of the access doors and/or dust drawers for easy filter access as well as all around the unit for access in the event of maintenance or emergency.
  2. After placement, the collector (and booth) should be secured to the floor using tapered anchor bolts.

Electrical Installation

All electrical installations must be performed by a qualified electrician and in accordance with local, state, and national codes/regulations/laws (if any).

Compressed Air Installation

The compressed air installation should be performed by a qualified installer and in accordance with local, state, and national codes/regulations/laws (if any).

  1. Compressed air is used to clean the dust coated cartridge filters with a high pressure reverse jet pulse.
    • A one inch diameter dedicated supply with a minimum of 80 PSI and a maximum of 100 PSI is recommended.
    • An air regulator may be necessary to step down the supply air if the plant pressure is above the recommended rating. NOT complying will result in component damage.
  2. The air supply line to the accumulator tank must include water, oil and particulate filtration.
    • Water and oil in the compressed air will significantly reduce the effectiveness of the reverse jet pulse cleaning.
  3. A 160 PSI gage has been pre-installed to monitor air pressure. Prior to the final connection of the air line to the collector manifold, the air line should be purged to remove debris.
+ Perform Routine Maintenance

For optimal performance, routine maintenance is highly recommended. Do the following:

Clean Dust Drawer and Hopper

Check and empty dust drawer and hopper contents periodically.
NOTE: The frequency depends on the number of operating shifts and plant conditions.

Clean Spark Baffles (optional)

The spark baffles are located underneath the grating and should be periodically cleaned with mild soap and water.

  1. Remove the access panel.
  2. Pull out both spark baffles.
  3. Wash with soap and water and air dry.
  4. Replace both spark baffles.
  5. Replace the access panel.

Clean Drain Valve

Periodically open the drain valve attached below the tank to drain the liquid build-up in the air tank.

+ Replace Filters

For optimal performance, clean filters are necessary. To replace your filters, do the following:

HEPA Filters (optional)

  • The HEPA filters are located on top of the unit inside the HEPA filter assembly.
  • Periodically inspect and replace filters.
  • Condition of the HEPA filter will generally be a function of the Magnehelic Gauge reading (for the HEPA filters – NOT the cartridge filters).
  • To inspect and replace filters:
    1. Remove the two wing nuts for each filter.
    2. Lift off the filter “tie down” bar.
    3. Remove HEPA filters.
    4. Install new HEPA filters.
    5. Install HEPA filter “tie down” bar.
    6. Install the two wing nuts for each filter.

Metal Mesh Filters (optional)

Periodically inspect and clean metal mesh filters as any buildup of material in the filters can lead to fire. Do the following:

  1. Remove the access panel.
  2. Pull out both metal mesh filters.
  3. Wash with soap and water and air dry.
  4. Replace both metal mesh filters.
  5. Replace the access panel.

Cartridge Filters

Cartridge Filters will need to be replaced periodically. The frequency varies from a few weeks to a few years, depending on factors such as density of fumes/dust, particle size, humidity of air, oil or grease contents of matter. Do the following:

  1. Remove any device that would prevent the cartridges from being removed (cartridges are located underneath the valves).
  2. Pull both cam lock levers towards you (the filter guide bars should drop down).
  3. Remove cartridge filters (they should slide out).
  4. Slide the new filters into the unit (be sure to push the first installed filter, as far back as possible).
  5. Push both cam lock levers away from you (the filter guide bars should rise).
  6. Replace the access door.

Diemo Machine Works

Manitoba, Canada

Diemo teamed with Diversitech to replace ineffective ventilation using AM Series source capture and StormTower Pro ambient systems. Ambient systems are ideal for any application where capture-at-source isn’t practical

How the StormTower Works

Diversitech’s Stormtower begins by drawing contaminated air through a front facing louvered inlet, capturing smoke, dust, and fumes. The dirty air is then filtered through (6) MERV 15 nanofiber cartridges that trap submicron particles. A built in reverse pulse system then back flushes each cartridge at preset intervals, dislodging accumulated dust.

Clean air is exhausted at high velocity to adjacent units, establishing a constant, plant-wide circulation loop that maximizes coverage and ensures your entire workspace benefits from continuous, low maintenance filtration.

The StormTower Pro

The Stormtower Pro includes a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) control panel that lets you dial in airflow between 3,000 and 8,000 CFM. The system automatically ramps up motor speed to compensate for filter loading, and employs a soft‑start function to minimize energy consumption, peak electrical draw, and mechanical wear.

Case Study

Diemo Machine Works, a 140-employee fabrication shop in Manitoba, faced serious air quality issues from welding smoke and metal dust.

After an on-site assessment, Diversitech installed multiple StormTower Pro units in their heavy-duty carbon steel welding cell, delivering high-capacity airflow, VFD-driven performance, and consistent clean air across the facility.

“Our previous system was outdated and ineffective, so we researched and implemented a solution that truly works. Ultimately, we wanted consistent air quality across the facility – so everyone, from welders on the floor to office staff, breathes the same clean air.”
Allan Friesen, Director, Strategic Initiatives & Procurement, Diemo
