Their manufacturing processes involve fabricating lighting components from various metals, both ferrous and non-ferrous, including aluminum. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 484), aluminum dust is classified as a combustible metal dust, making proper dust capture and air filtration critical to maintaining a safe production environment.

Beta Calco’s manufacturing processes include welding, sanding, CNC routing, and other fabrication operations that generate fumes, smoke, and metal dust. Without proper filtration, these contaminants can impact air quality, worker safety, and facility cleanliness.
One of the primary concerns was the management of aluminum dust generated during sanding and machining processes. Aluminum dust presents additional risks compared to standard metal dust, as it is considered combustible under NFPA guidelines and must be handled using appropriate dust collection technologies.
As Beta Calco expanded its operations and relocated into larger facilities, they required a flexible air filtration strategy capable of supporting multiple fabrication processes while maintaining safe air quality throughout the building.

La solution

Diversitech worked closely with Beta Calco to design and implement a combination of fume extraction, dust collection, and mist filtration systems tailored to each stage of the manufacturing process.
Key solutions implemented include:

  • Welding Fume Extraction: Multiple FRED Jr units were installed throughout welding workstations to capture welding fumes and smoke directly at the source. Each unit provides localized extraction to protect operators’ breathing zones and reduce smoke migration across the shop floor.
  • Aluminum Dust Collection: A 10’ wide x 10’ deep sanding booth, powered by a Typhoon WX series wet dust collector, was installed to safely capture aluminum sanding dust. Wet dust collectors are particularly effective for combustible metal dust applications, helping mitigate potential ignition risks.
  • Downdraft Sanding Tables: Steel sanding operations are performed on DD 2’ x 4’ downdraft tables, which capture dust directly through the work surface to maintain a cleaner and safer workspace.
  • Machining Dust Collection: Several standalone Typhoon WX series wet dust collectors are connected to CNC routing tables and belt sanders. These systems collect aluminum dust at the source and prevent it from migrating throughout the facility.
  • Mist Filtration: Beta Calco also installed mist filtration systems from Diversitech’s sister companies Filtermist and Absolent, both part of the Absolent Air Care Group, to manage oil mist and airborne contaminants produced during machining operations.
